Social Policy Today (34)

Social Policy Today

1

Young lady that’s from Auckland
I would like to buy a bus
That is already converted
And will house the two of us

With rentals so expensive
And the streets a cruel place
A mobile home would save us
From judgement and disgrace

When the Church provides a stable
Or a barn where we can stay
We will know that religion
Is still relevant today

2

I just need ten thousand dollars
Twenty thousand, better still
Bump that up to over thirty
For a bus that fits the bill

If I could raise forty thousand
You would surely live with me
For instead of being homeless
New age gypsies we would be

When the Church provides a stable
Or a barn where we can stay
We will know that religion
Is still relevant today

3

Young lady that’s from Auckland
I could always rob a bank
Of course I’m only joking
As I’m really not a crank

The Church isn’t caring
Since it is so middle class
How good to be respectable
When homeless people pass

When the Church provides a stable
Or a barn where we can stay
We will know that religion
Is still relevant today

4

It is rare to find compassion
For the homeless left behind
By the lack of decent housing
And with work so hard to find

In this modern human jungle
Since the snake is in control
Competition has now eaten
Deep into the human soul

When the Church provides a stable
Or a barn where we can stay
We will know that religion
Is still relevant today

The End
