The Spirit of an Age (58)
1
The rivers of tradition
And the spirit of an age
Once provided us with wisdom
Handed down from sage to sage
There were lots of pristine rivers
There were rain-forests abound
Plus the truly sacred wetlands
With the wilderness around
Chorus
When the rivers of tradition
And the spirit of an age
Are pushed aside by science
Greed takes over stage by stage
Can this modern beast be halted?
Even though the horse has bolted
Well I see no reason why this cannot be
We just need to follow the Amish community
2
The rivers of tradition
Were created back in time
What a pity the business model
Sees only money as being sublime
When a fool holds all the aces
And the bankers are in charge
Well money is seen as sacred
By the business world at large
Chorus
When the rivers of tradition
And the spirit of an age
Are pushed aside by science
Greed takes over stage by stage
Can this modern beast be halted?
Even though the horse has bolted
Well I see no reason why this cannot be
We just need to follow the Amish community
3
The rivers of tradition
What a treasure of a kind
When the needy and the greedy
Would leave the biggest fish behind
But later came irrigation
Followed by a hydro dam
And the nasty little nitrates
That may turn rivers into jam
Chorus
When the rivers of tradition
And the spirit of an age
Are pushed aside by science
Greed takes over stage by stage
Can this modern beast be halted?
Even though the horse has bolted
Well I see no reason why this cannot be
We just need to follow the Amish community
4
The rivers of tradition
Are depleted it appears
By a series of bad leaders
With a long list of bad ideas
Then again the business model
Hides some aces up its sleeve
Like the serpent, it is serving
You can call Adam or Eve
Chorus
When the rivers of tradition
And the spirit of an age
Are pushed aside by science
Greed takes over stage by stage
Can this modern beast be halted?
Even though the horse has bolted
Well I see no reason why this cannot be
We just need to follow the Amish community
The rivers or tradition have fallen into disrepute
With modern liberal thinking just like a poison fruit
And the business model serving a serpent hard to see
Since the only tree to grow now you may call the economy
The End
