The Indestructible Titanic (59)

The Indestructible Titanic (59)
1
Oh dear, some rivets popped out on the day
Due to their carbon content most experts say
Plus a behemoth, recently risen from the dead,
Decided to spar with science from its sea-bed

The dynamics of a ship that’s built to scale
May fail in the translation, once under sail
Can a ship in a tub help out with a plan?
That will not end up by hitting the fan

A ship that was unsinkable, the mighty Titanic
Achieved the unthinkable, and sank like a brick
In a science demonstration that was rather good
With the winner being Noah surrounded by wood

2
Sixteen modules, each one sealed with a door
So this ship might continue should it lose four
Yet the expert designers failed to get it right
When the Titanic sank on a wintery night

An iceberg was to blame as many have said
But not a good time to sail full speed ahead
The captain said nothing since he lay dead
Pierced with a spear on some Atlantic bed

A ship that was unsinkable, the mighty Titanic
Achieved the unthinkable, and sank like a brick
In a science demonstration that was rather good
With the winner being Noah surrounded by wood

3
Its designers were no doubt sad and aghast
That a fabulous liner would go down so fast
The dynamics of a ship that is built to scale
Made a mockery of a toy-model somehow

What led to a precision made slide-rule to fail?
And air under pressure to dictate and prevail
And rivets to unfasten like a zip lying below
An albatross liner slain with a crossbow

A ship that was unsinkable, the mighty Titanic
Achieved the unthinkable, and sank like a brick
In a science demonstration that was rather good
With the winner being Noah surrounded by wood

4
The women and wealthy queued up for a boat
Handmade out of wood and so liable to float
The losers were left with the sea, bitter cold
Including the ship orchestra so we are told

An old Chinese junk, had it been sailing past
Would have derided a boat for sinking so fast
Yet someone had signed off every damn page
So how could it sink on its maiden voyage?

A ship that was unsinkable, the mighty Titanic
Achieved the unthinkable, and sank like a brick
In a science demonstration that was rather good
With the winner being Noah surrounded by wood

                             -------------------

What are the implications for future progress?
That is a good question I can’t answer I confess
In this fast moving age we could end up anywhere
So forget the Titanic; Noah’s Ark can take me there

The End
