Riding on Highway 61 (61)

Riding on Highway 61 (61)

1
He hadn’t seen it coming which is usually the way
When you look up to the angels praying for another day
It was really quite a shocker; Dylan had gone for a ride
When an accident unfolded that wounded him inside

Bob Dylan’s Triumph motorbike
Was a cool and mean machine
Demanding jeans and leather
To be anything but clean

This was certainly the image
That the Press liked to put out
When Bob Dylan hit the tarmac
Like some God forsaken lout

It was cause for celebration when Bob Dylan played again
With his Fender Stratocaster, no real reason to complain
Just as long as Bob was happy to perform on the stage
With his genius remaining to turn over a new page

He hadn’t seen it coming which is usually the way
When you look up to the angels praying for another day
It was really quite a shocker; Dylan had gone for a ride
When an accident unfolded that wounded him inside

Did Bob Dylan’s motorcycle
Help his mind to race ahead
While recording a new album
That might be a watershed?

And when Dylan lost his balance
Was it simply wounded pride?
Sadly Sara wears a burqa
And refuses to confide

It was cause for celebration when Bob Dylan played again
With his Fender Stratocaster no good reason to complain
Just as long as Bob was happy to perform on the stage
With his genius remaining to turn over a new page

When you look up to the angels praying for another day
It was really quite a shocker; Dylan had gone for a ride
When an accident unfolded that wounded him inside

When Dylan crashed his motorbike
He had been homeward bound
After halting Newport Festival
With his new electric sound

Pete Seeger had gone bonkers
This may seem ridiculous now
With folk music close to dying
And far from a sacred cow

It was cause for celebration when Bob Dylan played again
With his Fender Stratocaster no good reason to complain
Just as long as Bob was happy to perform on the stage
With his genius remaining to turn over a new page

It was really quite a shocker; Dylan had gone for a ride
When an accident unfolded that wounded him inside

Thank heavens for Bob Dylan
We would be lost without him
Overwhelmed by song lyrics
Best performed by Tiny Tim

Since song lyrics before Dylan
Were created to appall
Save for Pressley records
Hanging from a bedroom wall

It was cause for celebration when Bob Dylan played again
With his Fender Stratocaster no good reason to complain
Just as long as Bob was happy to perform on the stage
With his genius remaining to turn over a new page

The End
